Johann Gutenberg High School, Erfurt, Germany
First Prize (2003), 2003
Architect Koch + Partner, München Construction Sum: ca. brutto € 450.000
The extension of the Johann Gutenburg High School breaks through the solitary nature of the Wilhelmine building and underlines both its symmetry and its presence in the urban environment. The new building develops into a major “communications platform” that is connected by an open stairway to the newly laid-out Gutenberg Square. The school courtyard extends from the roof of the new building over terraced areas into a sunken area. It contains play areas and theme gardens broken up by covered and green areas.
